Rob Ferreira and LHS play their first game of the season

Winter sports supporters were in for a treat on Saturday when Hoerskool Rob Ferreira and Lydenburg took to the field for their first clash of the season.

The latter hosted the event, and although the matches were friendly, players on both the rugby and hockey fields were eager to show their prowess, making for an action-packed fixture.

On the rugby field, Rob’s u/14 A narrowly beat the home team with four points, 19-15. The B team in the same age group, however, thrashed Lydenburg 50-0.

When the home team reigned supreme, they did so compellingly.

Lydenburg’s first team walloped Rob Ferreira by 40-5 scoreline and their second team showed that they too were worthy opponents after a 31-0 victory.

But Robs did not let these losses deter them and their u/16 A team thumped LHS by a 31-10 scoreline.

The u/16 B team pulled themselves up by their bootstraps and emerged triumphant with a 26-8 win.

One the hockey fields, it was however a one-man show where Rob’s first team beat LHS by a 4-0 margin and the u/16s registered a 4-2 win over their sporting rivals.

Robs played this games ahead of the Danie Rossouw Rugby Week that will take place on their fields. It starts on Monday March 18 and ends Thursday March 21.

LHS players will participate in the boys’ hockey games against Curro on Friday April 05. And on Saturday they will participate on the winter sports against Curro.
