The Pirates' fans were silent in their masses
SuperSport United ran the Orlando Pirates’ defence ragged in an Absa Premiership clash at Mbombela Stadium on Wednesday night.
More than 13 000 fans, most in the white and black of the Buccaneers, packed the lower tier of the SuperSport fortress.
United put three goals past Pirates’ keeper Wayne Sandilands.
The goalkeeper was not to blame as Pirates’ defence was awful on the night. There was no structure, no cohesion and a serious lack of fighting spirit.
It was a poor Pirates performance, while SuperSport welcomed the opportunities gifted to them.

There was a fast-paced start to the game, with both teams having their opportunities, with nothing on target except a header from Fortune Makaringe, which United keeper Ronwen Williams handled with ease.
The first goal came in the 35th minute when Bradley Grobler intercepted a poor pass and slotted the ball past Sandilands.
Grobler grabbed his second goal 10 minutes into the second half, a powerful shot into the net.

Ghampani Lungu silenced the Pirates’ faithful with a goal on 68 minutes. Once again the visitors’ defenders were not doing their job.
The few thousand SuperSport fans roared their approval of the scoreline for the remainder of the match as their team played out the time with a solid defence and keeping possession.
The win moved SuperSport United up to eighth place on the log with three points from two matches. Pirates are ninth, also on three points, but with an inferior goal difference.
United’s next match at Mbombela Stadium is against Cape Town City on Saturday September 14 at 20:15.
