White River duo defend their mixed pairs bowls title

After a very even contest in the early part of the game, the White River pair held their nerve and eventually won the game with 30 shots to 22.

The White River Bowling Club pair of Francois Hanekom and Annette Stassen retained the Mpumalanga Mixed Pairs title.

Eight teams qualified to represent their zones in the Mpumalanga mixed pairs play-offs held at Nelspruit Bowling Club over the weekend. Bowls of the highest quality were presented over the two days. After the completion of the round-robin stage, Hanekom and Stassen qualified to meet the Groblersdal Bowling Club pair of Michelle and Sam van der Westhuizen in the final.

After a very even contest in the early part of the game, the White River pair held their nerve and eventually won the game with 30 shots to 22. Marlet Ireland and Dean Paiva (Bungalows) won third place by beating Micus Grech and Marnell Price (Witbank BC) 23-16.

The winning pair has qualified to defend the title they won last year at the South African Mixed Pairs competition. This year’s competition will be played at Stella Bowling Club in Durban during June.
