GALLERY: Bateleur Estates Memorial Run attracted a record number of entries this year

The runners took on the challenging course and worked up a quite a sweat while completing the memorial run.

This year’s edition of the annual Bateleur Memorial Run saw a record-breaking  925 entries. This year’s number of participants is unprecedented in the event’s eight years. The Nedbank Lowveld Country Club Running Club secretary and one of the race organisers, Beth Bloch, gave some perspective on the race and its beginnings at LVCC.

“This is the eighth running of the Bateleur Memorial Race. Before that, LVCC ran the race from its grounds from 2008. It was initially run to honour only fellow runners who passed away, but was recently expanded to include anyone who is no longer with us and that we wish to remember.

“Bateleur Estate honours this tradition with a memorial wall, where anyone can place a photo of a loved one no longer with us,” she said.

Participating runners took off from the starting line bright and early at 06:30 on Saturday morning to take on the 4-,10- and 21-kilometre distances. The course wound its way through the estate, around the dam and on to neighbouring estates.
