Swimmers speed up their stroke to move forward
According to Ilana Hattingh, vice president of Mpumalanga Province Swimming, it is the swimmers’ times that allow for qualification in the different categories, regardless of their ages.

Van Riebeeck Park Swimming hosted the Swimming South Africa Level-1 Intra-Provincial Swim last Saturday.
Swim clubs from across the province entered swimmers who were hoping to improve on their times in the different categories in order to move on to the next level.
According to Ilana Hattingh, vice president of Mpumalanga Province Swimming, it is the swimmers’ times that allow for qualification in the different categories, regardless of their ages.

The level-2 meeting that was set to be held in Polokwane from March 27 to the 29th has been postponed, as well as the level-3 meeting that was slated to be held in Germiston from March 19 to 22 and the SA Nationals that were to be held in Durban from April 4 to 9.
For the young swimmers, trimming their times in the different categories is a must, because all eyes are on the South
African National Youth Championships, that are normally held in Durban.

“Our swimmers participate in different galas across the country to determine whether they will be eligible to
participate in the South African National Junior Championships. So, the goal is always to improve their time in the
water in a specific category in order to be eligible to compete there.”
Last Saturday’s Level-1 IntraProvincial Swim produced great results for the competitors who went the distance in all the events and will be moving on to the next level. The swimmers who put in noteworthy performances include Anna Boyce, who was named best senior girl.

Ruben Zalzwedel made every stroke count and his performance on the day earned him the best senior boy title. The junior swimmers also put in sterling performances. Zoe Morgado and Schalk Loock’s efforts saw them respectively
scooping the best junior girl and boy plaudits.
