Off-road skills tested at Mpumalanga Enduro Series
The second round of the 2022 Mpumalanga Enduro Series was held at the Gustav Klingbiel Nature Reserve, Lydenburg, on Saturday May 7.
Schalk Potas of Trail Awareness Crew said that the route was tough, and the competitors’ hard practice was rewarded at the end of the day. Willie van Eck won the elite men, Ruben le Roux was second, Christan Kirsten third, Christian Smit fourth and Carel Robinson fifth. Julia Kotze won the elite ladies’ category and Talia Behr came second.
The grandmasters’ men’s winner was Mike Behr. In the junior men’s category, Riku de Lange was first, Bartel Herbst second and Armand Reyneke third. Eloise Brown came second in the light female category. Trent Sinclair won the master’s men category, Anton Blignault was second and Arie Roos third.

The master ladies’ was won by Corné Ackermann, Ruth Behr came second and Sabine Cowie third. Morné van Niekerk won the sprog boys.

Andriaan Reyneke won the sub-junior boys, Ilse Roos the sub-junior girls, Justin Victor won sub-veteran men, Denzil Lawrie the veteran men, Louise Kotze the veteran ladies, Gabriel Burns the youth men and Danika Botha won the youth ladies’ category.

“The participants genuinely came from near and far, which truly shows their commitment to the growth of this mountain bike discipline. Thank you to all the young riders and their parents who entered. We achieved what we set out to do. We had very positive feedback, not just from the enduro community, but also from newcomers to the discipline of mountain bike enduro,” said Potas. The next event on the Mpumalanga Enduro calendar is the MTO trails in White River on Saturday June 18. There are dates provisionally set out until October 30.
