Thriston Lawrence is DP Tour Rookie of the Year

He will be action at the Alfred Dunhill Championship next weekend.

A former Laerskool and Hoërskool Nelspruit pupil, Thriston Lawrence, won the DP Tour’s Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Award on November 24 after completing his first season on the tour.

He earned his tour card when he won the Joburg Open last year.

He competed in the Open at the Old Course at St Andrew’s, Scotland, in July, at which he finished tied 42nd.

He won the Omega European Masters in August and had six top 10 finishes in other tournaments.

He finished the season ranked 14th on the DP Tour. The 25-year-old played in 30 tournaments, accumulating 2 150.1

The Mbombela Golf Club affiliated pro will compete in the Investec South African Open at Blair Atholl Golf and Equestrian Estate in Johannesburg from today.

Next Thursday he will tee off in the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek.
