Caddies shine with clubs in hand at Mbombela Golf Club

The day is held annually to thank the caddies for their year's work.

The tables were turned when the hard-working men who usually carry the golf bags and assist the players with advice, got their day to play 18 holes of competitive golf.

The Caddie Challenge was hosted by Mbombela Golf Club on Monday.

“This is the 13th playing of the annual Caddie Challenge. This event sees the local clubs’ caddies compete against one another to see who is the best of the best.

“However, the club also takes this opportunity to thank them for their year’s service and dedication to the members and visitors of the club, by donating food hampers and cash that they can take home to their families, leading up to the festive season.

“These individuals often get up early in the morning to travel to the club in the hope of being offered the opportunity to caddie for a golfer, which sometimes does not realise. They are an integral part of the golf experience that the club offers, and therefore it is our chance to give back to them in a unique way.

“They truly look forward to the event each year and the chance to have the bragging rights of being the best golfer among themselves.

“We also thank all the corporates that become involved to ensure the day is a success,” said Darren Plumb, CEO of Mbombela Golf Club.

The caddies’ representative, Lawrence Masango, thanked the sponsors on behalf of the competitors.

Thomas Mkhatshwa of Team Tripwired was the champion golfer of the 2022 Caddie Challenge on 33 points.
