Thrilling action from over-50 golfers at Mbombela Golf Club

Gavin Brough from Sabie River won the Super Senior Open.

Johan Krugel of Rustenburg Country Club won the Mpumalanga Senior Open (over 50 years old) with a score of 142, level par.

The tournament was played at Mbombela Golf Club.

He shot 72 on the first round on Saturday and 70 on Sunday. His 36 holes included six birdies and six bogeys.

Durban Country Club’s Lyall McNeill, who held a one-stroke lead after the first round, Johann Nel of Randburg Golf Club, and Johnny Branco of

Southdown’s Golf Club, finished tied second on 148, six over par.

The best Lowvelder in the tournament was the fifth-placed Gavin Brough of Sabie River Sun Golf Club. His seven over par 149 also secured him the Super Senior Open’s (over 60 years old) first place.

Wingate Park Country Club’s Gordon Wessels was the runner-up in the Mpumalanga Super Senior Open with a score of eight over par 150.

Conrad Rauch of Pretoria Country Club was third on 15.

2. Ben Viljoen (White River Country Club): 137
3. Cas du Toit (Mbombela Golf Club), Douglas Malope (Sabie River Bungalows): 138.

Mpumalanga Super Senior Open nett top three:
1. Gavin Brough, Dennie Taljaardt (Barberton Golf Club): 141
3. Rob McLagan (Mbombela Golf Club): 142.
