Pumas roaring and ready to go for final preseason clash

The Airlink Pumas are well prepped and itching to go for their fourth and final preseason match today when they take on the Lions in Johannesburg.

After what has been a predominantly successful preseason campaign this far, the Airlink Pumas have just one more match lying in wait before they take to the field for the start of the SA Cup next week.

The Pumas will take on the Lions in Johannesburg this afternoon, March 14, and will be looking to bounce back from the only loss of their 2024 preseason.

This loss came on March 8 at the hands of the Griffons, who overcame the men from the Lowveld with a 28-19 score line in Welkom. Prior to this, the Pumas had travelled to Durban where they faced the Sharks and edged out their hosts 34-31 in what was a nail-biting encounter.

Their preseason had started on February 21, when they played two matches against the Leopards in Pretoria. Both saw comprehensive wins for the Pumas – the first was won 50-7 and the second 68-7 by the Lowveld team.

In spite of their loss to the Griffons, the Airlink Pumas will be hoping for a repeat of their Durban heroics when they line up against the Lions at Emirates Airline Park later today.

They’ve announced a 26-man squad for the encounter, and will likely look to field a more settled side, having rung in the changes on a number of occasions throughout the preseason.

The Pumas will enjoy a week’s break until they travel to George next Friday, March 22, where they will take on the SWD Eagles in their first SA Cup fixture. They will play their first home fixture the week thereafter, against Eastern Province on March 30.
