NHS rugby reigns supreme over Eldoraigne

Hoërskool Nelspruit’s rugby sides showed their dominance in the latest round of NWU Schools Series matches, winning all eight of their matches against Hoërskool Eldoraigne.

The rugby teams from Hoërskool Nelspruit went unbeaten against Hoërskool Eldoraigne in the latest round of NWU Schools Series games, while the hockey teams had a mixed day out and the netball teams had largely positive results.

The Nellies welcomed their visitors from Pretoria for two days of sporting action on Friday and Saturday, April 5 and 6. Netball and rugby were both played on the Saturday only, while hockey was played on both days.

Both the hosts and the visitors enjoyed great support on each of these two days of action. A welcome number of spectators showed their support for the first hockey teams on Friday night.

The two first girls teams played first, and neither side could break the deadlock as the game ended 0-0. Next, in the boys’ game, Eldoraigne mounted a comeback in the second half to earn a 2-1 win.

On Saturday, the Nellies’ first netball team was on a mission to give the home supporters something to cheer about. They played a thrilling game, ultimately narrowly winning 26-25.

The pinnacle of the weekend was the first rugby team, the Rhinos, who stormed through Eldoraigne 53-10 to end off an unbeaten weekend of rugby for the Nellies.

The final round of the round-robin portion of the 2024 NWU Schools Series is this weekend, and Hoërskool Nelspruit is hosting Die Hoërskool Menlopark on Friday and Saturday, April 12 and 13.
