Pumas ring in changes for Valke clash

Airlink Pumas coach Jimmy Stonehouse has rung in the changes for his side ahead of their SA Cup encounter with the Valke at Mbombela Stadium later today, Friday April 12, with four changes to the starting line-up.

The Airlink Pumas will field a changed side against the Valke at Mbombela Stadium tonight, Friday April 12.
Coach Jimmy Stonehouse has made four changes to the starting line-up from the team that whitewashed the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein last week.

All four of these changes are in the Pumas’ forwards pack. This sees Etienne Janeke, Darnell Osuagwu and Tiaan de Klerk all make their first SA Cup starts, while André Fouché at flank returns for the first time since the season opener against the SWD Eagles.

Dewald Maritz and Jeandré Leonard will be on the bench for the Valke clash, while Llewellyn Classen and Jaco Labuschagne are rested this week. Other changes to the bench see the new additions of Jan-Henning Campher, Keegan Schaefer and Brandon Thomson.

The changes indicate a desire for some squad rotation from Stonehouse, as the Pumas lie second on the log, equal on points with the Griquas who downed the Valke 66-25 in the second round of the SA Cup. This will afford more of the Pumas’ fringe squad players the chance to get some valuable game time, which is by and large the purpose of the SA Cup competition.

The match between the Airlink Pumas and the Valke kicks off at 19:00.
