Mbombela Stadium to host Nedbank Cup final as TS Galaxy crash out in quarters

Even though TS Galaxy were eliminated from the Nedbank Cup by Chippa United on Sunday April 14, local football fans rejoiced in the news that the 2024 Nedbank Cup final would be played at Mbombela Stadium.

The 2024 Nedbank Cup final will be played at Mbombela Stadium on June 1. This announcement was made following the quarter-final between TS Galaxy and Chippa United, where the home side was knocked out of the competition.

TS Galaxy’s elimination from the Nedbank Cup at the quarter-final stage marks the fifth straight season in which the Mpumalanga outfit has failed to reach the semi-finals since winning the competition in 2019.

Despite dominating the majority of the game, enjoying 67% of the possession, TS Galaxy were unable to make any chances count, including a missed penalty in the 88th minute.

Chippa United were more clinical in front of goal and ensured they broke TS Galaxy’s run of success at home with a 2-0 triumph to reach the semi-finals. Shortly after the final whistle, the semi-final draw was held to determine the fixtures for the semi-finals, as well as which stadium would host the 2024 Nedbank Cup final.

Chippa United was drawn against Orlando Pirates, who they will face at home, while Stellenbosch will host Mamelodi Sundowns. The winners of these two semi-finals will then travel to Mbombela for the final at Mbombela Stadium on June 1.
