Club hockey returns to action in White River

After a two-week break, club hockey has resumed in Ehlanzeni, with the latest round of fixtures having been played at Uplands College.

The Ehlanzeni senior hockey leagues are back in action once again, having taken a two-week break, with games resuming at Uplands College on Sunday April 14.

This was the third round of matches in the respective leagues, and all four had matches scheduled. It was a welcome return to action for club hockey, after they initially took a break for the Easter weekend and then for another week to make way for the Mpumalanga junior trials.

These have a big impact on the club hockey, because many of the clubs have a vast number of juniors playing in the ranks, which will undoubtedly pay off one day as Mpumalanga hockey continues to grow.

In the men’s second league, White River 2 faced off against KaNyamazane, whom they beat 2-0. Lowveld Country Club (LVCC) also played KaNyamazane later in the day, managing a 3-1 win.

White River 2 played KaNyamazane in the ladies second league, winning 6-0. Impala 2 and LVCC 2 locked horns in what was a hotly contested game of hockey, the former winning 1-0.

Both men’s and ladies first leagues featured in only one game, both between White River 1 and LVCC 1. In the men’s first league, the two teams played out a pulsating 2-2 draw. LVCC 1 earned the bragging rights in the ladies first league, though, winning 2-0.
