White River, LVCC extend leads in top tier of Ehlanzeni club hockey

A great day of club hockey at Penryn School on Sunday May 12 saw White River and Lowveld Country Club extend their leads at the top of the men’s and ladies’ first division logs.

The sixth round of matches in the Ehlanzeni Senior Hockey League was played at Penryn School on Sunday May 12, with White River and Lowveld Country Club (LVCC) walking away with bragging rights in the two first division matches.

The Ehlanzeni Senior Hockey League is reaching the tail end of its 2024 season. With six rounds of fixtures having already been played, only two more remain in the coming weeks.

It’s been a riveting season thus far, too, as no team has run away with the title in any of the four divisions. This goes for the four defending champions, too. In the ladies’ second league, Impala 2 have led the way, but they aren’t quite out of the reach of White River 2 just yet.

White River is currently third in the ladies’ first league, without a point yet this season. In the men’s first league, White River find themselves three points ahead of LVCC following their triumph at Penryn on Sunday.

The men’s second league, however, has been the most competitive one so far this season. Four teams – LVCC 2, White River 2, Impala 2 and KaNyamazane – all still have the chance to win the title.

White River 2 are currently based on top on a goal difference, and KaNyamazane are second. LVCC 2 find themselves in third, while Impala 2 are fourth. The gap between first and fourth is only four points, so any of the top four teams will fancy their changes in the last two rounds of matches.

The results from round six of the Ehlanzeni Senior Hockey League are:
• Ladies’ first league: LVCC 3-1 White River
• Men’s first league: White River 3-1 LVCC
• Ladies’ second league: White River 2 2-1 LVCC 2
• Men’s second league: KaNyamazane 4-0 White River Macs, LVCC 2 1-1 White River 2.
