Rian Joubert has found his way back to the top of the Lowvelder Golf Challenge leaderboard following the fifth round at Mbombela Golf Club on July 23.

The Lowvelder Golf Challenge continues to be a hit with Mbombela golfers, attracting healthy participation numbers every month.

While the air around the course was chilly last Wednesday morning, things warmed up somewhat later on, and ultimately conditions were perfect for a great day of golf.

Octopi Smart Solutions and Du Toit-Smuts & Partners Attorneys were on hand once again as partners to ensure the day was a great success once more.

A few golfers were able to make use of the fine weather to make big moves up the leaderboard with good scores in the fifth round.

The top golfer for the day was Le Roux de Beer, who carded 43 points – the joint-most for a single round in this year’s Lowvelder Golf Challenge.

Gerhard Knoetze was in hot pursuit, finishing second on 40 points, followed closely by Beon Stander on 39.

While he wasn’t in the top three for the day, Rian Joubert’s total of 32 points last week moved him back up into the top spot on the leaderboard at the expense of Attie van Wyk, who missed out on the fifth round.

On each day the competition is played in an individual Stableford format.

To contend for the title, the players must compete in at least five out of the nine competition days, as their five best scores will count towards the overall standings after the grand final, which will be hosted on November 20.

The next 2025 Lowvelder Golf Challenge will be held on August 27. Players are responsible for booking their own rounds and carts by contacting the club on 013 744 0952.

Eligibility for prizes requires attending the prize-giving ceremony. Participants must be affiliated with a club and hold an official handicap.
