White River karatekas excel at Limpopo championships

The karatekas are well-decorated and have been highly successful this year.

A group of four karatekas from White River brought home no fewer than eight medals, after they took their skills to the provincial stage in Limpopo.

Miandi and Surika Dierks along with Carel Roos participated in the Kimura Shukokai Limpopo Championships on July 19 under the guidance sensei Babsie Roos, who herself also competed. Each of them excelled, earning two medals apiece while competing against a field of 84 participants.

Babsie and Carel both claimed gold in their kata and kumite, showcasing their excellence. The two sisters, Miandi and Surika, showed their family’s prowess. Miandi claimed bronze for kata and gold for kumite, while Surika took silver in both kata and kumite.

The karatekas from the White River Kimura Shukokai Karate Dojo have been in fine form in 2025. Surika, Miandi and Babsie all won medals at the Kimura Shukokai National Championships, while Surika and Babsie also excelled at the KSI Karate Tournament Kimura Challenge.
