Runs aplenty for captain Katie

Uplands College girls cricket team captain, Katie Prior, made a phenomenal and memorable score in a T20 match against Lowveld High Girls this past week.

Following an impressive 98 (not out) against Lydenburg the previous week, the 16-year-old said she was determined to try and pass the 100 mark.

She made it in style, with a scintillating 172 (not out) to help Uplands to a comfortable win against their local rivals.

Katie, who is also captain of the Mpumalanga u/19 girls cricket team and has been a member of Mpumalanga Women’s cricket team for the past three seasons, followed up the memorable knock with another 50 against Lowveld High – this time for the Uplands College boys second team.

Historically Katie has always been a successful opening bowler for Mpumalanga, but has set her sights on becoming a true all-rounder.

To help try make this a reality, Katie has been working hard with her coaches at the Johan Rudolph Cricket Academy – and it seems that hard work is seriously paying off.

Following her recent exploits, Katie humbly said, “I’m just enjoying my batting at the moment and I’m happy to be a small part of the development of girls’ cricket at Uplands College and in Mpumalanga.”
