Putting young golfer’s family first

Mbombela Golf Club played host to a golf day last week in aid of rising star, Brandon Geere.

Only three months ago the former pupil of Hoërskool Nelspruit joined Ranger College in Texas to pursue his golfing career. In 2017 he was named player of the year during NHS’ prize-giving ceremony.

The 18-year-old qualified for an 80 per cent bursary to attend the college in Texas. He has all the attributes to make it in a big way. He is already ranked second in his college team and top of his class academically so far.

His father was diagnosed with advanced cancer a month before he went over and has no means of income as he is getting intensive chemotherapy. It is such a dire situation that the flight ticket to the United States of America was sponsored by a friend.

However, a whopping R100 000 was raised in order for Brandon to keep playing the game of golf he loves so much.

Afrikaans SuperSport commentator, John van Rensburg auctioned a Springbok blazer worn by the late Joost van der Westhuizen as well as three ties of Van der Westhuizen including one of the 1995 Rugby World Cup.

“Wow! Thank you to each and everyone. Thank you to our heavenly Father for giving Brandon the talent and to pursue his golfing career in Texas. We as a family appreciate all parties involved for making this day a great success,” said Brandon’s mother Sanet.
