Skorbinski bids Pumas farewell
Influential winger, Ruwellyn Isbell was named iCollege Pumas' top try scorer of the season, Sport Unplugged ambassador of 2018 and awarded the Airlink SuperSport try of the year.
The Pumas’ talisman was awarded the SuperSport try of the year trophy for his try against the Hino Valke, following a tap kick by flyhalf Chris Smith in the left corner. He outpolled Hennie Skorbinski, who was also mentioned for an excellent try against the Valke.
Captain of the Pumas, Skorbinski, who has decided not to renew his contract with the Pumas, was presented with the trophy for most loyal player as well as SuperSport Challenge backline player of the year.
“When I was called to the stage, I got a lump in my throat thinking that I have decided to hang up my boots. It was not an easy decision, especially knowing that I am leaving my Pumas family behind.”
“It was a career decision. My wife and kids are my life and I want to give them some stability. I am not getting any younger. I am thankful for the Pumas and the platform they established for becoming a better person. I am excited about the future,” said Skorbinski.
As of next year he will be joining the coaching staff at Hoërskool Nelspruit.
Skorbinki and his wife, Ane are expecting their first newborn, due in May.
Currie Cup forward player of the year, Le Roux Roets will be joining Australian-based rugby team, the New South Wales Waratahs ahead of the 2019 Super Rugby season.
