Relay records fall at Mpumalanga Spring Gala at Van Riebeeck Park

The teams from Nelspruit Swimming Academy Development, Uniswim and Curro Swimming Academy were in fine form.

Records were smashed in the relay events of the Mpumalanga Sprint Gala held at Van Riebeeck Park on Saturday.

Five relay records were set during the day.

The Nelspruit Swimming Academy Development team of Nina Oosthuizen, Minette Swartz, Mieke van der Merwe
and Makanaka Makoto set a new record time of 02:51:13 in the girls’ 11-12 200m medley relay.

In the boys’ 13-14 200m medley relay, Eden Obermeyer, Aiden Els, Ronewa Myeza and Henning Radley of Curro Swimming Academy set a record of 02:34:98.

Curro Swimming Academy added another record to the team’s achievements for the day when Dian de Klerk, Neil Burger, Dylan Scholtz and Janco Rademeyer swam a time of 01:58:41 in the boys’ 15 and over 200m medley relay.

Uniswim members were also in a record-breaking mode, with Emma Roberts, Erin Beyers, Miela Banza and Karmen van Rensburg clocking 02:17:33 in the girls’ 13-14 200m medley relay.

Their teammates, Lys Banza, Jodi dos Santos, Lucy Friedenthal and Brooklyn Croxon, set a record of 02:16:32 in the girls’ 15 and over 200m medley relay.
