Swimmers race against the stopwatch at Mpumalanga Age Group Gala 1

Some of the younger participants swam their first ever race.

The Mpumalanga Age Group 1 Gala was held at Van Riebeeck Park on Friday and Saturday.

One hundred and twenty-three swimmers from clubs and schools all over Mpumalanga took part.

Though it was early in the season, the competitors took to the water determined to improve on their personal best times in their chosen events.

The longest event of the meet was the
1 500m freestyle. Four swimmers took on this daunting physical challenge.

Lucy Friedenthal (Uniswim) clocked 20:14:49 and Ashleigh Jansen van Vuuren (Curro Swimming Academy) finished in 21:43:38. Esmari Weitsz (Uniswim) recorded a time of 21:52:23 and Michael Swanepoel (Uniswim) 21:55:47.
