Mpumalanga Rhinos defeat Limpopo in thriller at Uplands

The Rhinos face the KZN Tuskers at home to tomorrow.

The Mpumalanga Rhinos defeated Limpopo by one wicket with one ball remaining in the CSA Provincial One-day Challenge at Uplands College on Sunday.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat.

Jon Hinrichsen was the mainstay of the Rhinos bowling attack. He took the wicket of Thomas Hobson with his first delivery, caught behind by Rubin Hermann.

Limpopo found themselves on 18/2 four overs later after Hinrichsen claimed Ludwig Kaestner’s wicket, the catch going to Yasser Cook.
Limpopo never really recovered, despite a valiant 89 off 120 balls from Morné Venter, and finished on 215 for eight, probably 25 runs short of a defendable target.

Hinrichsen finished with five for 34 in eight overs.

The Rhinos were soon in trouble in their innings. Tumo Koto and Cook were back in the pavilion with just four runs on the scoreboard.

Muhammed Mayet was out four overs later, caught Venter, bowled Sithembile Langa, and the Rhinos first win was disappearing with the score on 23 for three.

But Jurie Snyman and Hermann took back the initiative, taking the score to 96 before Hermann was trapped LBW by Langa.

Benjamin van Niekerk joined Snyman at thee crease and the pair took the score to 170 before Van Niekerk was caught by Liam Peters off the blowing of Thomas Hobson – the score 176 for six

The game went down to the wire as the tail enders held their nerve and the winning runs were hit off the fifth delivery of the final over.
Snyman top scored with 93 off 129 balls.
