Ninety-year-old swimmer heads to Mbombela for SA Masters

Buddy Borstlap is from George and aims to win more medals.

He might be 90 years old, but Buddy Borstlap is more at home in the swimming pool than he is on land.

He has held multiple national records in his age group and has claimed numerous medals at the annual SA Masters Swimming Championships over the years.

Last year at the nationals in Cape Town, Buddy won two gold, one silver and two bronze medals.

Buddy, of the Fish Eagle Masters swimming team in George in the Western Cape, will be heading to the Lowveld with his teammates to compete in the 2023 SA National Masters Championships to be held at Van Riebeeck Park from March
14 to 19.

He will compete in the 90- to 94-year-old age group category.

Buddy has also competed internationally, competed in two World Masters Championships and finished in the top 10 in his age category.
