Flexi League enjoyed by Lowveld tennis players

The format ensured that the tournament was a great success.

Junior and senior tennis players from across the Lowveld tested one another’s mettle in season 1 of the Lowveld Junior Tennis Association’s Wilson UTR Flexi League.

The league was played over six weeks, during January, February and March, and consisted of divisions A, B and C.

Teams consist of two players who compete against other teams in their division. The exciting part is that the teams are not restricted by age or gender, but divisions are organised according to playing level. Therefore adults and children all play against one another, arranging matches to suit their venue and schedule.

Each tie in the flexi league comprises of two singles matches (number 1 vs number 1, and number 2 vs number 2) and one doubles match. Matches are played using a best out of three, Fast4 format.

In division C, the final play-off match was won by the Spin Doctors (Jean Eksteen and Nathan McKenzie) who defeated the All Blacks (Timon and Mignon Swart) 2-1.

Division AB’s finalists were Funky Socks (Milan van Heerden and Shayna Lea), who were defeated 2-1 by Team Dynamite (Chané Steyn and Joshua Hoffman).

Lastly, division A was won in a round-robin group format by SamprAgassi (Eckhardt van der Linde and Deniel Terblanche), followed by second-place finishers Zone Hitters (Donald Chauke, Warno Smit and Willem van Wyk).

Season 2 starts this week, and promises to showcase the great tennis talent in the Lowveld once again.
