Mpumalanga’s best primary school swimmers do battle in Mbombela

The young swimmers produced excellent times in the Curro Nelspruit pool.

Laerskool Nelspruit swam to victory in the Mpumalanga Top Schools Junior Primary Gala at Curro Nelspruit on Saturday October 28.

The Nellies finished the event with 1 034 points.
Curro Nelspruit was second with 852 points and Uplands Prep third with 426.

Hilton Vos of Curro Nelspruit was the victor ludorum and teammate Hannah Morgado the victrix ludorum.

Hilton also swam the best performance for a boy – scoring 658 points in the 100m individual medley.

Curro Nelspruit’s Paige Plumb achieved the best performance for a girl – 526 points in the 100m individual medley.

In the Mpumalanga Top Schools Senior Primary Gala at the same venue on Saturday afternoon, Curro Nelspruit were the victors with
1 024.5 points.

Laerskool Nelspruit was second with 946.5 points. In third place was Laerskool Malelane on 620.5.

Aiden Els of Curro Nelspruit won the victor ludorum trophy and the same school’s Zoe Morgado the victrix ludorum trophy.

Aiden produced the best performance by a boy – 657 points for his swim in the 50m backstroke.

Alize Engelbrecht scored 643 points in the 50m freestyle, the best performance by a senior girl on the day.

Top three schools – combined scores:
• 1: Laerskool Nelspruit – 1 940.5
• 2: Curro Nelspruit – 1776.5
• 3: Uplands Prep – 1 029.5.

The following records were set in the junior primary gala:
• Hannah Morgado (Curro Nelspruit): girls 7-9 years, 100m individual medley – 01:35:52
• Marno Bothma (Laerskool Nelspruit): boys 7-9, 100m individual medley – 01:36:06.

The following records were set in the senior primary gala:
• Alize Engelbrecht (Laerskool Nelspruit): girls 10, 50m freestyle – 00:33:05
• Pieter Pretorius (Laerskool Malelane):
boys 10, 50m backstroke – 00:43:27
• Nelspruit Curro: Gemma Goelst, Mignon Swart, Zoe Morgado, Zenande Mgwenya): girls 10-14, 200m medley relay – 02:35:22
• Aiden Els (Curro Nelspruit): boys 12 50m backstroke – 00:33:80
• Ntando Mahlare (Killer Whale Aquatics): boys 50m backstroke multiclass – 01:00:83.
