Schools play rugby and netball in true sporting spirit at Laerskool Laeveld

The scoreboards might have been a reflection of which teams were stronger, but the matches played were about the proud sporting bonds between the participating schools and the spirit in which the netball and rugby were played.

The netball courts and rugby fields of Laerskool Laeveld were recently the scene of some of the great traditions of South African school sport – friendly winter sport meetings.

On Friday, Laeveld hosted Nelspruit Primary and Laerskool Standerton, and on Saturday, Primary again and Laerskool CR Swart.

From the U9s to the U13s, the boys and girls represented their schools with pride and passion, much to the delight of the large parent and supporter contingent that witnessed both days.

One of Friday’s many highlights was the thriller match between the U13A netball teams of Laerskool Laeveld and Laerskool Standerton.

Both teams’ hard work on the practice courts was evident from the excellent netball played. Laeveld had to fight hard for a 12-10 victory.

Friday’s rugby match between the U11 teams of Primary and Standerton went to the wire, with the Mbombela-based school winning 21-20.

On Saturday, Laeveld’s most junior netball team made the school proud. The U10B team faced CR Swart’s, with the host school winning 4-3.

Nelspruit Primary’s first rugby team faced their counterparts from CR Swart on the same day. The Primary boys’ preseason training payed off as they executed their game plan with precision, winning 15-0.
