Mbombela Golf Club’s Darren Plumb wins prestigious regional award

Plumb has a passion for Mbombela Golf Club, its members and visitors.

The CEO of Mbombela Golf Club, Darren Plumb, is the winner of the PGA of South Africa (PGA of SA) Gauteng North Management Award.

The PGA of SA Gauteng North’s (Mpumalanga, North West and Limpopo fall under this region) members nominated candidates for the award and this list was then whittled down to three by the board of directors.

The category was for managers, CEOs and directors of golf clubs, and managers of successful businesses within the golf industry.
Plumb, Gavin Woodroffe of Centurion Country Club and Ian Geringer of Highlands Gate were on the final list, which was then sent to all of PGA of SA Gauteng North’s members who voted to decide the winner.

This process for the five regions concluded recently and the regional award winners were announced by the PGA of South Africa on July 15.

The award will be handed to Plumb at a later date.

Plumb will now go up against the other regional winners, Pierre van Vuuren (KwaZulu-Natal), Meyer du Toit (South and South-eastern Cape), Darrin Hendley (Central Gauteng) and Cassie Viljoen (Western Cape) for the title of PGA of South Africa National Manager.

The national membership and an appointed panel of the PGA of SA will vote to decide the winner. This process will commenced on July 29.

“I am humbled at winning the award, it is a great honour. But it comes with the support of members of the community and businesses in Mbombela. There is so much the club and community offer each other. I love the club’s gees and family environment. We are one big family and everyone is welcome here – it’s very special,” said Plumb.
