Runners unite from White River to Mbombela to fight GBV

It was a day of inspiration, empowerment and collective action, solidifying the event’s importance in the ongoing fight against GBV.

Segwana Tladi of Bella’s Athletics Club won the women’s race at the 2024 GBV Half-marathon on Saturday August 10.
The 21.1km race started in White River and finished at Mbombela Stadium. Some 268 athletes completed the half-marathon.

The race not only raised awareness on but also garnered significant support for gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) initiatives, making a lasting impact on the community.

Tladi flew the flag for the host club, winning in 01:31:25. Sera Jackson, running with a temporary licence, was second in 01:32:25. Wendy Bosch of City of Mbombela Marathon Club was third overall, and first in the 40+ category in 01:41:09.

The men’s finish could not have been closer, with Reghan Magwali of Hollywoodbets and Nicolas Segpongwese of Boxer sprinting for the victory. Magwali claimed the win by 6/10ths of a second, clocking 01:04:41. Musawenkosi Buthelezi of Volksrust Marathon Club was third in 01:05:08.
