Swimmers from across Mpumalanga converged on Van Riebeeck Park in Mbombela on January 16 and 17 for the Age Group 4 Gala.

Amid recent heavy rainfall, the weather played along, with cloudy skies and only an intermittent light drizzle falling.

It was the swimmers against the stopwatch as they attempted to improve on personal best times in various events.

In the mixed 100m freestyle, Radley Henning (U16) finished first in 00:55:47, with Aiden Els (U14) taking second in 00:57:67, and Joshua Boyd (U16) third in 00:57:75.

Two U16 swimmers fought it out for first place in the boys’ 100m breaststroke. Aiden Esterhuizen took the win in 01:22:43, with Xuan Classens finishing 7/100s of a second later.

Age Group 5 will be held in Middelburg on January 30 and 31.
