Players tee off 2026 on a high at Malelane Golf Club
The Monthly Mug competition at Malelane Golf Club always serves up some tightly contested golfing action.
Malelane Golf Club members got their year off to a good start with another successful Monthly Mug competition.
The contest is played every month at Malelane Golf Club and serves as the monthly club competition for local golfers. The January event was held on Saturday, January 24, after a long spell of incredibly wet weather that saw the golf course close for a period of time, too.
But by the time the Monthly Mug rolled around, the weather had cleared, the course had dried up and conditions were perfect for some fine golf.
Gail Pringle was once again the winner of the ladies division on the day, repeating her December triumph, thanks to a nett score of 76. In the men’s nett division, December winner Leon du Plessis had to settle for second with his score of 72, as Norman Smith won this month’s mug thanks to a score of 71. Len Diedericks was third in January, carding a score of 76.
Anton Nortje, who was third in December, this time jumped up to first in the gross division repeating his score of 87 to claim the mug. Neil King, with a score of 92, was second, followed by Richard Burger with a score of 97. The winners of the nearest to the pin prizes were Nortje on hole 2 and Burger on hole 8. The only two-clubs of the day belonged to Nortje and King.
During Malelane’s Monthly Mug competition the men’s golfers compete in two divisions with one division for the ladies. There are also prizes handed out for the nearest to the pin on par 3s, and for golfers who achieve a two-club – a two-club is when golfers finishes a hole in two shots.
