Uplands swimmers dominate at Mpumalanga Top Schools

Lowveld swimmers dominated the Mpumalanga Top Schools Gala last weekend. Twenty schools from all over the province took part.

The high school meeting took place at Van Riebeeck Park pool last Friday and the gala for primary schools was hosted at Curro Nelspruit on Saturday.

Uplands College scored the most points of all the participating schools, 1 207, in the high school event. Hoërskool Nelspruit finished second with 941 points and Curro third with 807.

Penryn’s Jordyn Minifie achieved the most points for girls in her age group in a single event on the Hy-Tek points system for her 200-metre IM.

NHS’ Jetro Piso and Liza-Mari Drummond were named victor and victrix ludorm, respectively.

NHS also topped the medal table with 36 of which 22 were gold. Estralita Swim School also won 36 medals of which 20 were gold.

Uplands College’s swimmers won a combined 41 medals among them, with nine gold, 18 silver and 14 bronze.

Penryn College had a total of 15 and Calvery Christian School five.

The primary school seniors saw Laerskool Nelspruit’s swimmers put the most points on the board of all the schools: 1 138.

Laerskool Nelspruit’s Robbie Drummond chalked up the most Hy-Tek age-group points, with his 50-metre freestyle, while Stephani Viljoen did the same in her 50-metre breaststroke.

Laerskool Nelspruit’s Jimmy Munro and Curro’s Gerard Venter shared the victor ludorum trophy.

Uplands’s Carolien Pienaar was named their female counterpart.

Nelspruit also put the most points on the board, as a school, among the primary school juniors.

Curro’s Tamryn Scott was named both the victrix ludorum and scored the highest Hy-Tek points for her performance in the 25-metre breaststroke.

Dylan Ormiston from Penryn Prep was named victor ludorum.

Laerskool Nelspruit took home a total of 40 medals with 19 gold, Curro won 30 with 12 golds and Uplands Prep got 25 of which eight were for first place.
