BHS athletes represent Ehlanzeni athletics team

Five athletes from Hoërskool Barberton recently represented the Ehlanzeni athletics team in the Mpumalanga Athletics Championship in Secunda.

Five athletes from Hoërskool Barberton recently represented the Ehlanzeni athletics team in the Mpumalanga Athletics Championship in Secunda.

Bandile Mabuza, Banele Shabangu, Corlia van der Merwe, DJ Raulstone and Lindelwa Ntuli made their school proud by qualifying for the team.

Results

• Bandile Mabuza (boys u/15), won a gold medal in triple jump with a distance of 13,09m as well as running the 100m in 12,3sec. He was also chosen for the provincial athletics schools team.

• Corlia van der Merwe (girls u/17) achieved a silver medal in javelin, with a distance of 35,48m.

• Banele Shabangu (girls u/15) competed in high jump and earned a silver medal, while also finishing the 100m in 13,86sec and the 200m in 28,26.

• DJ Raulstone (boys u/19) got a bronze medal in triple jump with a distance of 13,22m.

• Lindelwa Ntuli (girls u/15) participated in shot-put and managed to throw a distance of 9,17m.

She also took part in both javelin and discus, with distances of 21,76m and 22,46m.

Unfortunately, she did not receive a medal and did not make it to the second level.
