Father’s Day event at I’langa is quite the classic

The annual, and perhaps I should call it the traditional, Father’s Day car event at I’langa Mall, drew quite a large crowd this year.

And, again describing it as a classic car event was raised? The show included new, older, vintage and even a Rod or two so I will refer to it as a classic car show.

Among the two new participants this year was a 1972 Land Rover (from afar I first thought it to be a Unimog) belonging to Leonard de Kock. It is still kitted with its original tyres and has done about 10 000 miles. When the family needs to get out of the rat race they employ the Landy to explore the mountains. De Kock has, since becoming the owner, redirected the exhaust system, kitted it with a number of valves which allows him to boil water and cook boerewors and bake bread rolls while on route to their destination. Indeed very clever and practical. Its licence disc indicates that it is registered as a fire engine.

The other beauty was a BSA belonging to Mitch McAlister. It was restored by Kobus Koekemoer who, believe it or not, only started getting into this field about three years ago.

He has, however, already received commissioned work and interest in what he does from an international client base. Autodealer Lowveld will bring you a more-detailed article on what and how Koekemoer does his thing, in the near future.

The oldest car at the event was Dawie Wille’s 1928 Ford Model A Roadster. But then let us rather show than tell you what was on show.
