The evolution of telephones is never ending. Since the invention of the first telephone by Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Watson in 1844, a lot has changed. One can only imagine the excitement of being able to call loved ones kilometers away. In 1973 Marty Cooper invented the first cellular phone. It was a big and bulky hand-held device that had everyone talking, however, only the rich could afford it. Motorola was the first company of its type to create a smaller device that was now able to flip open, making it more fancy and a bit of a show off. Nokia then came up with a device that could be held in one hand comfortably during the mid-19’s. Fast forward to 1997 when the first Palm Pilot phone was developed. This device was only for the prestige, and celebrities used it as a daily planner. By 2004 the mobile industry had exploded and companies popped out from every direction. The devices became smaller and smarter, leaving us today with smartphones. You can now do basically anything with your device, from taking pictures and surfing the web, to swimming. So, next time you look at your phone, remember how it all started and how far we have come.
