A White River Runs Through It

Only 20km from Nelspruit and around the corner from PIlgrim’s Rest, White River is home to some of the country’s more creative potters, sculptors, and artists. So much so that it’s known as “The Artist Town,” so what is behind the allure of this tiny Mpumalanga town?

White River might be a quiet and tranquil town, but it’s by no means sleepy. With a wide range of accommodation including lodges, hotels, and timeshare resorts, it’s a very popular holiday destination for both locals and foreign visitors, mostly due to its proximity to the Kruger National Park that is about 30 km away. The region offers visitors a host of things to see and do, including everything from hot air ballooning and white water rafting to abseiling, microlighting and game viewing.

Casterbridge Farm has recently been developed into one of the most original and charming shopping concepts in South Africa. A blend of Victorian and Tuscan architecture complimented by formal magnificently manicured gardens makes the Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre a unique concept. A selection of clothing, linen, furniture and décor shops, as well as restaurants and coffee shops cater to those who enjoy the finer things in life. Music and theatre lovers can be entertained at the Barnyard Theatre at Casterbridge.

The area has also become increasingly popular with second home buyers and that’s lead to a number of secure estates being developed. This is a good thing for those thinking about buying a property for sale in White River, as there is sure to be a good variety of options on offer.

The town has come a very long way since being known as an agricultural hub and has since reinvented itself entirely. This is partly due to the demand for properties in the town and prospective buyers are able to finding upmarket, entry level and a variety of properties in between as a result.
