Municipality rakes in awards

The honour and the award of appreciation were also for the utilisation of internal capacity when preparing annual financial statements, instead of relying on external consultants that result in spending money that should be prioritised towards services to communities.

SEKHUKHUNE – Three awards were recently bestowed upon Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality.

The municipality has entered the spotlight once again; it dominated Salga’s Annual Audit Awards, held in Polokwane last Wednesday.

The awards are organised annually to recognise accountability and achievements towards good governance, and how individual municipalities respond to local government.

The awards won were for sustaining its unqualified audit opinion as well as on its remarkable spending on the municipal infrastructure grant.

This grant goes towards infrastructure roll-out programmes for communities that the municipality has been able to spend uninterrupted for the third year running.

The honour and the award of appreciation were also for the utilisation of internal capacity when preparing annual financial statements, instead of relying on external consultants that result in spending money that should be prioritised towards services to communities.

Mayor Minah Bahula said, “Subsequently, this can only translate and lead to a better life for the beneficiaries of municipal services, which is our people.

“The ANC-led government has given us a responsibility and we are humbled by the honour and the people we serve. It means there is something good we are doing, since we were given a chance to lead. All these awards we have attained since we came into office are for our people, for the trust and mandate bestowed on us.”

The three awards were received by the municipal manager, Nancy Rampedi, on Bahula’s behalf.
