Cultural group receives nomination

STEELPOORT – Bana ba Kgwale cultural group has been nominated in the South African Traditional Music Awards
(Satmas) 2021.

The group from Ga Mampuru is known for performing at local events in and around Tubatse.

The cultural group, which sings and dances to traditional music, consist of nine members.

Magale Mashanye is the leader of the grpup.

“We had been performing for the past five years. Our recent nomination in the Satmas is a reward for our hard work. We plead for support from locals,” said Magale Mashanye, one of the members.

She added, “To be nominated is already one of our biggest achievements thus far and we are truly honoured. We wish to see ourselves performing at the Satmas event.”

The group is nominated in the Best Sepedi Artist/Group category. “To vote for the group, SMS SATMA183 to 49495. SMS costs R1.50. Voting closes on November 25,” added Mashanye.

The Mpumalanga provincial government and the SABC are the hosts for the event this year.

The Satmas were founded by Dr Dumisani Goba in 2005 and inaugurated in 2006 to bring all races
and ethnic groups together through the celebration of South Africa’s diverse musical cultures and also to eliminate tribalism and other divisive measures.
