Ga Mphethi community demand better services
The community members claim that for the past few years, they have been without electricity and water, and some of them have no homes.
BURGERSFORT – Residents of Maapea Mpheti in Ward 17 claim to be the most neglected village in the Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM).
They protested outside the municipal offices for improved service delivery on Friday and handed their memorandum of demands to the management.
They said they are fed up with the government. They claim the FTLM has done nothing to ensure the acceleration of service delivery in their village.
The community members claim that for the past few years, they have been without electricity and water, and some of them have no homes.
“We feel neglected by our own municipality. They deny us our rights to have water and electricity,” they said.
“In 2019, we submitted a list of households to be electrified. There were 360 homes. None of them were electrified. The number has doubled and we have about 700 homes that need power,” said the protesters.
According to them, they were not considered in the FTLM’s current integrated development plan budget.
The residents were also concerned about the lack of water in their community.
“Since the borehole was stripped, we don’t have an alternative water supply, not even a nearby river. We rely on buying water,” they complained.
The Maapea Mpheti residents and some EFF members gave the municipality seven days to respond to the memorandum of demands
