Illegal dumping still a headache in Thaba Chweu
Residents are again dumping their refuse on the way to the Lydenburg Landfill site, littering the road, after the sides of the road have been cleared up several times this year.
The Thaba Chweu Local Municipality (TCLM) has confirmed that the road to the landfill site is increasingly being littered by the public.
The Lydenburg/ Mashishing Business Chamber has lodged several cleaning campaigns throughout the year and worked very hard with TCLM. But the hard work is now being destroyed.
Gardening services and refuse removal companies are dumping refuse and garden rubble in open areas or empty areas on the road toward the Landfill site.
Bylaw officers has been instructed to write out fines if the illegal dumpers are caught in the act.
“Thaba Chweu is working hard to improve operations at the site in Lydenburg. Residents with light vehicles are disposing of waste on their way to the site and are not able to drive to the site. This is illegal,” said Themba Sibiya, communication and marketing manager TCLM.
