Suspect arrested for toddler’s murder in Schoemansdal

A 21-year-old suspect has been arrested for allegedly murdering a three-year-old girl in Driekoppies, reportedly after becoming angry with her mother.

Police in Schoemansdal have arrested a 21-year-old suspect on May 5 at about 13:30 in connection with the murder of a three-year-old girl in Driekoppies.

It is alleged that the child’s mother, a domestic worker at the residence the suspect shares with his grandmother, left her daughter sleeping on a couch. When she later could not find her, the suspect allegedly directed her to the garage, where she discovered the child’s body. She had sustained head injuries.

Police and Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene, where the child was declared dead.

When questioned about the incident, the suspect allegedly said he became angry because the mother did not clean the house properly.

The suspect was arrested. A murder case has been opened, and he is expected to appear in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court on May 7.
