Stoffberg accident leaves many questions unanswered
It was like a scene from a Hollywood movie as motorists driving along the Stoffberg road witnessed an accident unfold right in front of their eyes on Tuesday afternoon.
It is believed that security guards from Ayanda N VIP Protection, who had been hired by the Middelburg Long Distance Taxi Association, were chasing a vehicle that picked up hitchhikers when their vehicle lost control and rolled into a nearby farm.
Fortunately, there were no oncoming cars when the crash happened.
The taxi associations in Middelburg have hired taxi patrols and security companies to protect their vehicles and ensure that taxi users do not hitchhike.
An eyewitness, speaking anonymously to the Middelburg Observer, revealed that shortly after the VIP Protection security guards were involved in the accident, another vehicle swiftly arrived at the scene and extracted several firearms from the crashed vehicle.
Three injured men were then transferred into another vehicle.
Concerned residents have raised questions about why the security guards removed the injured men from the vehicle before waiting for assistance from experienced emergency services. Additionally, there is uncertainty about why they were in such a rush to remove the firearms.
When the Middelburg Observer reached out to Ayanda N VIP Protection to inquire about the incident, the organisation, located in KwaZulu-Natal, stated that the three drivers were still in the hospital and declined to comment on the matter.
Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Police, mentioned that he will investigate the matter at the Middelburg Police Station and will respond as soon as he receives an update on the matter.
The Middelburg Long Distance Taxi Association could not be reached before publication.
