The prestigious Provincial Excellence Awards, hosted by Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba, the MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Violet Mathye, and the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, honoured and rewarded the members for their contributions, dedication and commitment.
Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson, said the ceremony aimed to celebrate SAPS members who worked tirelessly to enhance the safety and security of Limpopo residents, visitors and the business community.
His Grace, the Right Reverend Dr Bishop Barnabas Lekganyane of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC), His Grace, the Right Reverend Bishop Engenas Lekganyane of the St Engenas ZCC, and high-ranking SAPS officials formed part of those who graced the event.
In celebration of the recipients, General Hadebe expressed, “You exemplify excellence, bravery and integrity. Your stories of heroism and unwavering commitment inspire us all. Let the recognitions serve as a reminder of the dedication and sacrifice that define our service.”
The Deputy National Commissioner of Policing, Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili, attributed the success of the officers to much-needed teamwork and collaboration.
The awards also serve to motivate those who go beyond the call of duty.
There were 24 members and four teams nominated in various categories, and the Community Policing Forum were also awarded during the ceremony.
Ramathuba stressed the significance of collaboration in combating crime in the province and called on stakeholders, community leaders, traditional leaders and churches to continue partnering with the police to maintain law and order.
She further urged the leadership of the police to support and treat their subordinates fairly, providing them with the necessary resources and mentorship. The ceremony also observed a moment of silence in honour of the brave SAPS members who died on duty.
