District mayoral committee portfolios changed

Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM) has rearranged the institution’s mayoral committee portfolios.

According to SDM, the reconfigurations are aimed at strengthening service delivery across the region and bringing fresh ideas into its governance.

Executive Mayor Minah Bahula declared the rearrangements at the municipality’s head office in Groblersdal during an ordinary council meeting.

Bahula stressed the need for renewed energy to address the critical service delivery requirements of communities effectively. She indicated that the restructuring will ensure the mayoral committee continues to fulfil its constitutional mandate effectively while addressing issues of services across the region.
Bahula further voiced confidence in the new leadership’s collective mission to uplift the lives of the masses.

Lemson Moropjane, SDM spokesperson, stated, “The adjustments were necessitated by the recent resignations of Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) Bella Kupa, who has since joined the Limpopo provincial legislature, and MMCs Sibongile Nkosi and Samaria Mashilo, now serving in their new roles at Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality.”

The reshuffle is as follows:

• Alfred Matlala, former Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality Mayor, has been tasked with leading planning and economic development.
• Samson Nkosi, Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) Chairperson, now heads corporate services.
• Orginia Mafefe assumes the stewardship of community services from the corporate services portfolio.
• Baatseba Leshaba moves to budget and treasury while Kuki Sefala, leader of government business, takes over infrastructure, water and sanitation responsible for planning and management.
• Hudson Mashoeshoe has been elected as the new MPAC Chairperson while Carlos Ngobeni becomes Deputy MMC for Infrastructure, Water Services, Repairs and Maintenance.
• Ngobeni will work alongside second Deputy MMC Moffat Machipa. MMC Mabatane Mathale remains in repairs and maintenance.
• Khomotso Robinson, District Director for Community Services, has been seconded as Acting Municipal Manager for Fetakgomo-Tubatse Local Municipality.
