Four victims critical after minibus accident

Four people were seriously injured in an accident on the R579.

Sixteen people sustained injuries following an accident involving a Toyota Quantum minibus on the R579 near the Viva gas station outside Motetema Township on Monday morning.

The accident occurred at about 07:20 when the driver of the minibus lost control of the vehicle.

Emergency Medical Services personnel were summoned to the scene and worked tirelessly to assist, stabilising the injured passengers, including the driver, and clearing the scene.

Tidimalo Chuene, the Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety spokesperson, confirmed that only the minibus was involved in the accident. It is currently unclear what caused the accident, and an investigation has been launched.

Six people suffered minor injuries and the driver and five other passengers were seriously injured. Four were in a critical state.

The patients were transported to Groblersdal Hospital for medical attention.
