Sekhukhune Mayor Bahula cautions against GBVF
Sekhukhune District Municipality Executive Mayor Minah Bahula has expressed concerns over the alarming gender-based violence and femicide statistics in the region.
During the Men’s Conference at the Sekhukhune District Municipality council chamber in Groblersdal, Executive Mayor Minah Bahula stressed that gender-based violence and femicide are grave issues and urged men to take part in serious discussions about the matter.
The mayor highlighted the deteriorating moral fibre in society as a result of the issue.
She was addressing the Men and Boys Parliament, informally referred to as Men’s Conference, held at the municipal council chamber in Groblersdal on November 14.

Speaker Kgoedisbotse Chego chaired the session, which aimed to address the issues affecting boys and men in communities.
Lemson Moropjane, municipal spokesperson, said the participants included the District AIDS Council, which Bahula chairs, and the sector departments and local municipalities.
Discussions were on issues around mentoring and raising boys, and the definition and role of men in society.
The South African National AIDS Council’s Men’s Sector convenes the meeting annually to provide a platform for men to engage on matters of their social and personal well-being.
