Mayor’s Marathon: Athletes show true determination in Jane Furse

The second edition of the Makhuduthamaga Mayor’s Marathon held in Jane Furse on Saturday saw an increase in runners compared to last year.

Makhuduthamaga Athletics Club (MAC) hosted the event, consisting of 5km, 10km, 21km and 42km races.

Supported by the Limpopo MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Jerry Maseko, and Maruleng Local Municipality Mayor Tsheko Calais Musolwa, the marathon started at the Jane Furse Artificial Pitch, and dedicated runners demonstrated an inspiring element of perseverance throughout.

Mayor Merah Mahlase, who praised MAC’s commitment to developing athletics in the Sekhukhune District, presented the results.

10km Men

• First: Given Makgoba (00:36:05); second: Paseka Mosehla (00:36:39); third: Adam Thobejane (17), the youngest competitor (00:36:51).

10km Women

• First: Evidence Mudzamiri (00:49:27); second: Makoma Batji (00:52:06); third: Phemelo Evidence Madigage (15), the youngest competitor (00:54:50).

21km Men

• First: Thabang Masihleho (01:07:39); second: Jackson Ole Koisenge (01:07:59); third: Silvester Kipkemboi (01:12:30).

21km Women

• First: Rosaline Magagane (01:33:21); second: Thuli Mbatha (01:44:05); third: Mmatlou Phokungwana (01:50:03).

42km Men

• First: Katlego Motseta (02:32:56); second: Peter Mthubi (02:32:59); third: Kgotlelelo Lekalakala (02:34:08).

42km Women

• First; Gladys Jepchirchir (03:04:37); second: Elizabeth Jeruiyot Chemweno (03:11:33); third: Annie Chirisa (03:32:50).
