High-ranking security manager in court

A high-ranking security manager will appear in the Moutse Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of alleged unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Makopole Jones Mathunyane (49), a director of a security company, will reappear in the Moutse Magistrate’s Court on December 8, facing charges of possession of alleged unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Mathunyane appeared before the court yesterday (December 3), following his arrest the previous day at Moutsia Mall, Dennilton. He has been remanded in custody for further investigation.

The Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit, based in Polokwane, with the assistance of the Private Security Industrial Regulatory Authority and SAPS Limpopo Provincial Firearms, Liquor, and Second-Hand Goods Team, effected his arrest.

Hawks Limpopo spokesperson Warrant Officer Lethunya Mmuroa said the director’s arrest followed a tip-off about a security company operating with alleged unlicensed firearms in Dennilton.

“During the operation, police seized two rifles, a pump gun, and ammunition,” revealed Mmuroa.
