Provincial Commissioner lauds Shanela operations
Firearms recovered, and hundreds of suspects arrested during Shanela operations in Limpopo.
A total of 890 suspects have been arrested, and seven firearms recovered during Shanela operations conducted between December 1–7 across the five districts of Limpopo.
According to Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the takedown was a collaboration with various law enforcement agencies and strategic partners.
Ledwaba indicated that the operation focused on dismantling criminal networks, clamping down on illegal firearms, and enforcing compliance with national legislation.
“The arrests were effected for a spectrum of serious and violent crimes, including rape, murder, drug-related offences, robbery, assault GBH, burglary, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Scores of undocumented foreign nationals were also arrested,” Ledwaba explained.
Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe welcomed the outcome and reaffirmed the commitment to rooting out illegal firearms and ensuring community safety.
Among the arrests were four rape suspects, 10 murder suspects, 92 suspects for contravention of the Immigration Act, and 84 suspects wanted for assault GBH.
The police also recovered 147 rounds of ammunition, 96g of nyaope, 50g of crystal meth, and dagga.
