Security boss out on bail

A security manager facing a charge of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition has been granted R5 000 bail by the Moutse Magistrate’s Court.

The Moutse Magistrate’s Court released Makopole Jones Mathunyane (49) on bail of R5 000 on December 11.

He was arrested by the Polokwane-based Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit, assisted by the Private Security Industrial Regulatory Authority and SAPS Limpopo Provincial Flash Team on December 2 at Moutsiya Mall in Dennilton.

Hawks Limpopo spokesperson Warrant Officer Lethunya Mmuroa said Mathunyane’s arrest followed a tip-off about a security company operating in the area, allegedly with unlicensed firearms.

“Police seized two rifles, a pump-action shotgun, and ammunition during the operation,” Mmuroa stated.

The security company director made his first appearance at court on December 3. His matter was postponed to December 8, followed by another postponement to December 11 for the bail hearing.

Mathunyane is expected to reappear before the court on April 8 next year for further police investigations.
